Appointments

If you have never attended therapy or counselling, you might not be sure what to expect. That’s okay.

Below are some common questions you might find helpful. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.

General

  • Please contact Tracey on 0428 615 640 or email her directly at Twclinical@outlook.com.

  • Sessions are 50 minutes long.

  • Tracey will be flexible in supporting your treatment goals in line with your individual needs.

Initially, weekly or fortnightly appointments are recommended. However, this can be tailored to suit individual needs and lifestyle, and therapy can be provided less regularly.

  • It’s completely normal to feel a mix of emotions before your first therapy session. Many people feel nervous, uncertain, or even overwhelmed — and that’s okay. It's also common to experience a sense of relief after finally having the space to share your story. You don’t need to plan out what to say or worry about how to explain things — Tracey will guide the conversation and support you every step of the way.

In your first session, the focus will be on getting to know you — exploring what's brought you to therapy, what challenges you're facing, and what kind of life you'd like to move toward. Importantly, therapy is guided by your desired outcomes and goals. If you are not sure before coming to therapy that’s normal. Tracey will guide you to find what is most important to you and what you would like to be different.

It may take one or two sessions to build a shared understanding and begin shaping a treatment plan that supports your goals. Tracey uses a Neurodiversity-affirming approach so we can go at your pace, and feel free to ‘be’ how you like (on the couch, the beanbag, the floor, sit cross-legged, fiddle with sensory stuff).

We use lots of visuals and write things down as well, so you don’t have to worry if you may have missed something. A trauma-informed approach is also used, meaning your emotional safety is always prioritised — sessions are paced in a way that aims to leave you feeling supported, not overwhelmed.

If you have any other questions about therapy or how it might support you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. We’re here to help.

  • Each person’s journey is unique and will be tailored to suit their individual needs. However, sessions will focus on how to make your life more aligned with how you function, and what you truly want. The aim will be to help you understand yourself, your life, and to feel empowered to have a greater sense of control.

Overall, therapy with Tracey aims to help you feel understood and gain an increased sense of wellbeing.

  • The amount of time required for therapy will be determined by your individual challenges, goals and what you are hoping to get out of attending.

Typically, the initial sessions will be devoted to an intake assessment, building a shared understanding and developing a treatment plan. This helps to better approximate length of therapy required to achieve your treatment goals.

  • Just yourself. Many clients like to bring notes that they may have made prior to the session or find it beneficial to take some notes during sessions or take photos of the notes provided. If you have any existing reports or assessments, you can bring these also.

  • Tracey does not provide Autism, ADHD or cognitive assessments and does not provide court reports.

  • Upon request telehealth services can be provided to individuals living in remote locations.

If you have any questions about how telehealth works, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Fees & Rebates

  • The total cost for a 50-minute therapy session is $190.

Medicare rebates will cover $96.65 and higher if you have reached your Medicare safety net. The out-of-pocket expense will therefore be $93.35.

Tracey charges significantly less than the rate recommended by the Australian Psychological Society (APS).

Please note we are not currently accepting bulk billing clients

  • You can see Tracey and engage in therapy without a referral.

In order to be able to access the Medicare rebate of $96.65 for up to 10 sessions each calendar year, you need to have a valid GP referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from a GP.

Mental Health Treatment plans do not cover Autism specifically; however, they do cover mental health conditions that often co-occur with Autism (i.e. anxiety and depression).

  • To access the Medicare rebate for your sessions with Tracey, you’ll need to obtain a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) and referral from your GP before your first appointment.

Step 1: Book a Longer Appointment with Your GP

Let your GP clinic know you'd like to arrange a Mental Health Treatment Plan. You may need to request a longer consultation, so your doctor has enough time to go through everything with you.

Step 2: Talk with Your GP

During your appointment, your GP will ask questions about your mental health and how you're feeling. They might also ask you to complete a short questionnaire. It’s helpful to be open and honest during this conversation so they can best support you.

Step 3: Receive Your MHTP and Referral

If appropriate, your GP will create a Mental Health Treatment Plan and write a referral letter to Tracey. You can either:

    • Ask your GP to email these documents directly to Twclinical@outlook.com, or

    • Receive the documents yourself and forward them to Tracey.

These need to be submitted before your first session in order for you to claim the Medicare rebate.

The number of sessions covered are as follows:

    • Initial referral: Covers up to 6 sessions

    • After those 6 sessions, you’ll need to return to your GP for a review

    • If appropriate, your GP can provide a second referral for up to 4 additional sessions, bringing the yearly total to 10 Medicare-rebated sessions

To continue receiving the rebate, the second referral must also be provided before your next session.

  • Yes. Individuals that are on Plan-managed or Self-managed NDIS plans are welcome.

Please advise Tracey if you are going to use your plan before your first session as Tracey will send you a form to fill-in about your NDIS plan details for fee processing.

  • Yes you can. If you have health insurance that covers psychology/counselling as extras cover, you may be eligible for a rebate. It is recommended that you contact your insurance provider prior to your appointment to determine what your individual coverage is. Tracey will provide a receipt to provide to your Private Health Insurance.

Please note, you cannot claim a Medicare rebate and private health rebate simultaneously.

If you have any questions or need help navigating the referral or Medicare process, please don’t hesitate to reach out — we're here to help.
